The Bhagavad Gita and me

I feel like Arjuna because I do not want to write my research paper, however it is my duty to do so. This is similar to Arjuna’s tale because he did not want to fight in a war, but it was his duty to do so. While writing the research paper, I felt as though performing my duty went against my personal code of doing as little school work as possible. This feeling is similar to Arjuna’s felling that doing his duty would make him go against Hinduism.

I could apply the Bhagavad Gita to my situation in the comic in the sense that I had to go against my wishes to perform my duty, but by performing my duty I felt better. This could be seen as an analogy to having to do your duty to be able to enjoy life after death.

While the 21st century american view of doing your duty may translate to having to do something you do not want to do, it is usually done to gain something in this world. In contrast to that, the ancient Indian concept of doing your duty would not involve being rewarded in this world, but rather being rewarded after death.

The Bhagavad Gita could be used as a tool for oppression by assigning certain groups of people undesired jobs that correlate to low stations of life, while also assigning other groups of people to leadership roles to rule over the other groups of people. This could potentially create the concept of a strict caste system.

The Feng Shui

I decided to Feng Shui my google drive.

As opposed to my arrangement before, chi is able to flow freely into and out of my google drive instead of being stopped by the cluttered files that had been accumulated since middle school.

The concept of the five elements is followed in the sense that the files are organized into subjects with each subject representing an element. Big walnut business leaders, a club I founded and run correlates with fire, history correlates with earth, math and technology correlates with metal, composition correlates with water, and biology correlates with wood.

Within each subject representing the 5 elements, you can find correlating folders representing the bagua.

So far my new setup is incredibly effective! It allows me to both find files quickly and effectively and feel liberated while doing so.

Taoist walk

A bird feeder seen during the walk.

  1. What was the most powerful sensation during the walk?

The strongest sensation I felt during the walk was a sense of harmony with nature as I enjoyed thinking about what was happening beyond my senses.

  1. Had you ever been on this path behind the school? If so, did you experience it differently this time?  If not, what was your impression of the walk?

I had not been on this path before, and I was shocked to find that such density of plant life could be found near a school that has a distinct lack of it.

What did you hear on the walk?

I heard birds chirping, plants swaying in the wind, and my classmates shivering.

  1. What did you smell on the walk?

I could smell the scent of the forest, the culmination of all the life working in harmony to create an incredible environment.

  1. What did you think on the walk?

I thought about the processes each and every plant was using to stay alive, and the interaction between them and the rest of the forest.

  1. How did you feel on the walk?

I felt connected to the forest through my actions and presence.

  1. How can this experience be compared to Taoism?

I felt like I was in harmony with the life in the forest much like how taoism stresses being in harmony with the tao.
